Learn to Draft Vancouver | Monday Evenings | Adults | Starting September 8th
Learn to Draft: Skirt Block Edition
6 sessions – 3 hours each
No drafting experience required (But basic sewing knowledge recommended)
In this beginner-friendly 6-week intro course, you’ll learn how to draft your own skirt pattern from scratch — using your body measurements and a pencil, not a printer.
We’ll start by drafting a custom-fit skirt block together, then sew and fit a test version (muslin) to fine-tune the shape. Once your block is perfected, we’ll dive into dart manipulation and design techniques that let you transform it into your dream skirt — gathered, princess seamed, flared, you name it.
This course is perfect for anyone curious about how patterns are made or looking to unlock new design freedom in their sewing practice. You’ll leave with a versatile skirt block and your own custom pattern.
You’ll learn how to:
Draft a skirt block from your own measurements
Adjust fit using a muslin mock-up
Rotate darts and reshape seams for design
Add waistbands, facings, and finishing touches
Turn your block into a custom skirt you’ll actually wear
Whether you want to make one perfect skirt or start designing your own wardrobe, this is where it begins.
Time: 5:45pm-8:45pm
Location: 263 Columbia Street, Vancouver (Gastown)
Dates: Every Monday evening for 6 weeks (September 8, September 15, September 22, September 29, October 6, October 13 - Closed for Thanksgiving, October 20).
What to Bring: All muslin, fabric, and drafting paper are included — just bring yourself and your curiosity. We’ll handle the rest.
Missed a class? We don’t offer make-up sessions for this course, but you can book a private 3-hour lesson at 25% off to catch up. Private lessons are $75/hour and can be scheduled directly with us.
*All sewing machines, tools, and drafting supplies are provided. You’ll receive a welcome email with full details about two weeks before the course begins.
